Most hardware stores understand that during a pouring rainstorm - if someone comes in looking for sandbags its is likely an emergency.
Not so with the genius crew at this place. They're too busy working on their garden display to get to it.
Hopefully this place goes out of business and a Home Depot can come in with competent staff.
I was just walking down the street past Ace Hardware on Osage and 38th when an employee came out (8/24 3:30pm named Bill) and asked me if I just got out of my car. I said "Nope, haven't owned a car in a dozen years." Which is why I'm living downtown. He thought I was illegally parking in their parking lot. "I could've sworn I just saw you got out of your car now." I responded with a polite "No" while walking on. "I guess we'll have to get you towed then!" said Bill and he turned around and walked back inside.
I walked back to the store because I didn't want someone to get their car towed for no reason, and all of his coworkers just treated me like I was the bad person. I made a little joke about customer service, but I will be honest: After this incident I am NEVER going to Ace Hardware. I would only go before if I had to, but now I will intentionally stay away from the place.
Just had the most ridiculous experience here. I came in asking for help finding screws for some things I was hanging into my plaster walls, to be told they didn't know what kind of screws I should use. I was looking for brown screws but also didn't care if I needed to spray paint silver ones. Another guy came over to help, told me I couldn't hang into plaster because my coat hooks would be too heavy. I explained we had much heavier things drilled into the walls now. He threw his hands up at me in anger and stormed off. So thanks, Ace, for that lovely experience, I'll use Home Depot from now on.
Excuse me? You are going to accuse people that live a block or two away of doing things inappropriately and now you're going to tow a car?
This is almost laughable...I go into the store to purchase a cover plate for a 220 receptacle and did not find one. I ask the two guys behind the counter for help, and one responds: "Well, if you didn't see one, I guess we don't have one." On to Edgewater!
Thanks Bill. Oh and your ear piercings look like they belong on someone 30 years younger than you. :)
Guys like Jamie make this place an absolute pleasure to patronize. Closest thing to a truly independent hardware store around, anymore.
