Also, those "pretty" tower rooms are known to have plumbing and A/C issues. This wouldn't be a huge problem were it not for the incompetence of the maintenance people. They seem to be adverse to actually fixing things- they'd rather either replace things entirely or make up excuses for why it "isn't actually broken". Luckily, I haven't had any plumbing or AC issues. Or any repairs, for that matter. This is one of the many reasons I recommend getting a studio- as far as I know, all of the studios are in the newer, better-kept north hall. You also don't have to purchase a meal plan if you get a studio.
If you don't feel like reading my huge diatribe, here's the bottom line: if you're considering living here, get a studio apartment, *not* a double or single. Most of the things people complain about here are problems I haven't encountered in my studio unit, but things my friends, who live in the tower, have. I should also preface this review by pointing out that the Regency apparently changed ownership in Summer of 2017.
They show you this top-floor room in the tower when you tour, and everyone here complains about how they didn't get one of the tower rooms with huge windows and a view. While it's true that the north hall rooms have smaller windows and no view, they're in *much* better condition than the tower rooms. Those big windows are huge energy leaks; the rooms get hot in the summer and cold in the winter as a result. Not to mention that if you have a ground-level room with big windows, you get harassed by drunk guys.
The wifi is sucky- the wireless in my room is slow but it usually works. In the tower and in the cafeteria, the wifi almost never works. The ethernet is pretty solid, though, so get yourself an ethernet cable. The quality of the wifi goes down during high-traffic hours- Sunday night is usually when the connection is the crappiest.
The Regency allows pets, but only if they're ESAs. The ESA registration process was pretty easy, and the manager I worked with was kind and helpful. The only caveat is that the managers are only there in the afternoon, about 1pm to 7pm. An RA or manager has only ever come to my room once, and that was for wellness checks- he did not "barge in"- he knocked and I allowed him in. I have automatic payments set up and they've never overcharged me.
The meals aren't great, but they're not terrible. I personally think anything meat-based they make is overcooked, but their soups, pasta, and pizza are good. The sandwich bar is only open 1/3rd of the time, which is annoying. The breakfast is pretty solid- they have both hot breakfast and continental breakfast. I'm not a vegan, but if you are, the pho and salad bars are pretty much your only options most of the time.
Facilities are pretty alright. I've heard people here say that the gym is always closed for events, but that has *never* happened in the time I've lived here. Probably something to do with the new management. The buses are great if you go to CU or Metro, but they suck if you go to RMCAD. There's one shuttle that makes six round trips on weekdays only. The laundry machines in the north hall are pretty good, and they take credit, which is nice. Sometimes one of the dryers smells bad, so use dryer sheets.
On the whole, I think it's pretty solid for a college dorm, especially if you get a studio apartment. My main complaints: they need new maintenance people and better wifi.
I got kicked out because David (assistant manager) failed to contact me through email as we agreed on a 6-month lease ( I was on my last semester). So what happened was that my car got towed and I lost some of my possessions. Anyway, good luck to people who are loyal to regency.
(Would rate 3.5 if I could, but it's not letting me)
The only downgrade here is the food... it is atrocious, big downgrade from last year. The meal plans are no where near worth it. I would pay max 3 dollars a meal. These meals are extremely overpriced for the quality. People considering moving here should seriously second guess there potential decision. Soley based on the food...
I feel like people have been hard on this place, because they're judging it as they would a hotel or apartment. These are college dorms, guys. There are always going to be people who smoke pot, drink, and make noise late at night. If you guys had seen CU Boulder's dorms, you probably wouldn't be so critical of the Regency, haha.
Poor communication and for sure take advantage of the college students. Forced, and way over priced meal plan. Sure it's nice if you have the money, but if you struggle to make it on your own, it's no fun. When I moved out, my friend and I worked for 5 hours to make sure the place was spotless. Not only did I have to clean my side, but my roommate moved out before me and didn't touch the broom. Didn't get anything from my security check.
I was trying to stay positive about the Regency, but in the end all they want is your money. They are greedy and don’t care about providing fair treatment. I was only given a quarter of my security deposit back after I moved about . I spent 2 hours cleaning my room before moving out and making sure it was way cleaner than when I moved into this place. They still sent me that they had to keep the rest of my security deposit for their private contractors to “Full paint of the bedroom, Common clean in the bedroom, Medium to Heavy clean in the bathroom” . They did not need to keep my security deposit to paint the bedroom or for the cleaning, I left my side of the room in better condition than when I moved in. This place doesn’t seem to care about students, just money. They charge a large amount for their meal plan that is mandatory. The walls are thin and allow you to hear all the noise from around you, which sometimes was inappropriate noise. It becomes a party spot on the weekends, so good luck trying to sleep. If your planning on moving here, plan on spending a lot of money! I am left with a bad impression because of the fact that the Regency hasn’t been helpful in resolving my issues. The rent is extremely high for what you get, which a double unit is basically a hotel room with a roomate. Sorry but I won’t be recommending the Regency after my deposit was kept from me and the experience I had while living there.
